Sándor Gyüdi, a distinguished graduate of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, is an acclaimed conductor celebrated for his work in both concerts and operas in Hungary and abroad. He also serves as a jury member at international competitions and lectures at the University of Szeged’s Faculty of Music.
After enrolling at the Ferenc Liszt Academy in 1983 and graduating in 1988, Gyüdi launched his career by signing with the National Theatre of Szeged, where he served as both choirmaster and conductor until 2000.
Gyüdi began his career in 1988 at the National Theatre of Szeged, where he had positions as both choirmaster and conductor. In the same year, he was appointed principal choirmaster of the Viktor Vaszy Chorus, earning international acclaim for his oratorio performances, particularly in Spain.
Throughout his career, he has led numerous opera galas, collaborating with Hungary’s foremost singers such as Ilona Tokody, Andrea Rost, and Mária Temesi, as well as with global stars like Montserrat Caballé in 2003. His symphonic repertoire ranges from baroque masterpieces to contemporary compositions.
Since the early 1990s, he has maintained a close association with the Szeged Symphony Orchestra. He served as director and conductor from 1999 to 2008, was later appointed chief conductor and music director from 2008 to 2018, and has since resumed the roles of director and chief conductor.
Additionally, Gyüdi was the general director of the Szeged National Theatre from 2008 to 2018 and its music director from 2018 to 2020.
Maestro’s numerous awards include the Franz Liszt Prize (2006), the Hungarian Order of Merit (Knight’s Cross, 2014), and the Polish Order of Merit (Knight’s Cross, 2016).
In 2023, Gyüdi was also a member of the jury of the I international ferenc fricsay conducting competition.
