Sebastiaan Eben van Yperen (born 1995) has been Second Kapellmeister at the Augsburg State Theatre since May 2024, where he conducts numerous concerts and productions, including the world premiere of Agustí Charles’ chamber opera The Last Night of the World as musical director. He will also assist Kent Nagano at the Opéra national de Paris..
Van Yperen studied orchestral conducting at the Amsterdam Conservatory with Ed Spanjaard and Karel Deseure, and furthered his studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London in the class of Sian Edwards.
He has also taken part in master classes led by Karina Canellakis and Colin Metters, among others. This was preceded by studies in composition at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
He made his opera debut as assistant to Karel Deseure at the Dutch National Opera Academy in a production of Little Women by Mark Adamo.
Since then he has assisted many renowned conductors, including for L’heure espagnole and La Voix humaine at Opera Zuid, for the St. John Passion at the Philharmonie Zuidnederland and for Fidelio at the Nederlandse Reisopera.
